Week 31

Image
So technically this would have been a few days after my initial hand in. However, that was pushed back for multiple reasons. So this may be the last update of my FMP, it has been a difficult but fun time and all the work I produced I am super proud of, so here is what I managed to do this week: I worked on producing a title screen and audio for my café scene. All of my Assets have been put into the engine so I'm just adding small bits of detail to make the scene feel more alive such as animations - Steam particle effects, the counter door moving, the storage door opening, the ceiling fans moving. I also made the audio in the scene spatial so when you get further away from the speakers it gets quieter. I also managed to add a splash screen with my own company ID. Which I then changed to this:

Week 30

This week I put everything into engine and began messing around with a few things. A few weeks ago I wanted to make a steam animation for my hot drinks. I thought that I would do a hand drawn 2d animation. After producing the animation I thought it look absolutely dreadful and threw it in the bin. I realise I probably should have kept it, but it is what it is, and I also realised I could easily make a better animation in the unity engine anyway, so no biggie.  I also began playing around with lighting within the scene and found a few issues. My first issue was to do with the low hanging lights being rendered later than other things in my scene. This meant that the light would look as if it was turning on and off as you walked forward and backward in my scene. I realised this was to do with rendering distance so I clicked on the light which was a point light, went to the inspector tab, set the render mode o important rather than auto and the issue was fixed. Following this ano...

Weeks 28 & 29

These past few weeks I have been completing the final parts for my Plant Based café. I fully managed to complete the interior of the café, adding in all the things that I think I need for it to be a completed café. The exterior assets I made are as follows: Mushrooms Tree with leaves and vines Bushes Generators Phone poles Cables Buildings A truck Boxes A huge statue of a froggy boi I created. The screenshot below shows the interior of the café without the roof and the exterior together. Due to this being set in the future I decided to make the generators bigger than they would usually be. Also this is my own world/creation so the stuff I make is all based on my own thoughts and doesn't really need to be backed up, as at the end of the day it is just fantasy. Below you can see the outside through the glass of the interior. The other things I managed to complete on the interior are as listed below: Posters and paintings Cutlery Plates Soil Bags Logo for the soil bags, the truck, th...

Week 26s & 27

These past two weeks have been a real slow down in production of my FMP. I don't really have any screenshots as I had other assignments to get up to scratch at this point. I also seem to have somehow confused my weeks and they seem to be blending into 1, so I'm not entirely sure what I completed. I have made a start on an exterior plan, however I will have to come back to this and see if it will work. This isn't the best update on my progress, but this does show that I'm human and sometimes I have a slump and can't seem to focus on my work or in particular my FMP. In regards to my dissertation I made some progress in that. My title is "How does Narrative impact visual style?" In reference to games, I created the title and focus a while ago and gathered a lot of information and a I wrote a quarter of it for mid February, I'm slowly starting to continue to develop it as it should be a continuous thing. Anyway, hopefully next week things will be moving fo...

Weeks 24 & 25

So my feedback from my presentation was good I only had one thing to improve on at the moment and that was making everything stylised. So my first change is reverting my plant pots back to their original style, simply because I preferred it quite honestly.  I also managed to complete thee things last week: Unwrapped door and door frame. Modelled and unwrapped door handle. And although some things were the correct sizes, for example the kettle and coffee machine, when put in engine they seemed disproportionate, I am not entirely sure why they feel this way, but I decided to change them in size to seem more stylised in a sense. After all of this hard work and all this input I suddenly felt like everything was wrong. I had been feeling this way about my FMP for a while, I hadn't fully taken into consideration what I was making and just continued with the progress. I realised recently that I was not enjoying it at all and that I was starting to hate my FMP more and more as I mode...

Weeks 22 and 23

Image
In the last 2 weeks I spent time re unwrapping/organising unwraps along with texturing some things. I made sure to finally unwrap  and texture my napkins, speakers, first aid box and tea bag box. I am now almost back on track! I purposefully left myself spare weeks, as mentioned previously, to give myself time to catch up with anything that is behind.  Power point presentation is also underway. (Presented at this time) Going forward I am going to take on the feedback that my lecturers have given me after I presented. And I will be unwrapping my door and door frame for next week, along with adding variants of newspapers and magazines.

Week 21

Modelled and unwrapped speaker. ceiling fan modelled and unwrapped. napkins modelled. Door frames and doors modelled. Artworks created. I also began working on reducing texture size and reworking textures so that I can maximise the space, i.e taking 4 textures that were originally 4096 x 4096 and putting them all onto one 4096 x 4096 by making them all 1024 x 1024. This is because they don't need as much texture space as I'm giving some of them as they are mostly smaller objects which means they don't need to be the highest resolution. Also in regard to textures, I could change things that are all the same colour to one material to save texture space, or place them all within a small area on the texture space and put their Uv's on that colour space. This is because I don't need any detail from these items, just simple colours. I could also overlap some tiling assets that need it. However, if any have normal maps or ambient occlusion I cannot overlap those as it wil...

The story of the Plant based café

The plant based café: Set in the not too distant future.... 2454 The Plant based café is seen, with it's doors open for all customers. However, this plant based café is not human like. In the year 2246 Humans were officially wiped off of Earth's surface, leaving only few surviving creatures around. 2430 An alien ship, 'The pot' (as the aliens deemed it) was travelling through space, looking for a spare planet to inhabit, as their previous one was  destroyed by their ruler, Dionaea muscipula. There were however, many warning signs that their ruler would go crazy, so with the knowledge of this, thousands of the little plantlings that lived on planet Vita, decided to escape. With the help of the best scientists in the world they managed to create a space ship big enough to encapsulate around 3,000 plantlings. The spaceship had only been in space for a few weeks before they found earth, the perfect world to take over.  Once landing they discovered what seemed to be a plane...

Week 20

Image
This week I managed to complete a bean texture for my coffee bean sacks that will be placed in the environment. I found this challenging to say the least, mostly because of the struggles getting the texture to look correct with normal maps applied. After doing this I managed to put them into my unity scene and then add some rigid body and box colliders to individual beans. After focusing on this I re worked my textures for certain assets, i.e the display fridge and the light, trying to see what shade f glass looked better on them individually. However, I found that the display fridge itself seems to make the shelfs look transparent when they are inside, but when they have been moved out slightly they look opaque. Furthermore, I managed to produce my floor texture. I still have to work on various parts of it, but it is headed in the right direction at the moment. I also completed all my qualification posters/ certificates.  Unity can't handle Transparent textures very well because u...

Weeks 18 and 19

Image
I spent the last two weeks working on a lot of small things: I Re Unwrapped walls so that they fit into one UV space and also so that the unwrap was matching up correctly. I did this because the original walls were slightly slanted due to the unwrap being faulty, however this has pushed me back slightly because now I have to fix the brick issue once again (Where the bricks come out of the wall in a small pillar section). I have to adjust them to look like actual bricks coming out of that section of wall. Furthermore I Spent time fixing transparent textures for the light and for the display fridge in engine and working out what the problems were. This was a tedious task because when going into engine you sometimes forget very basic things and have to do some research to refresh your memory, especially for me due to the fact I haven't used a transparency map in unity in over a year. I found that to use a transparency map, you need the alpha layer of the map to be the transparency, m...
